Robin (WAVE seen)

Date: 02/17/2020

Number: 50

I am 65 years old and have never seen a Robin this early in the year and in the dead of winter. Today it was 3 degrees Celsius and a large flock of Robins hung out in the neighbourhood for a couple of hours. Maybe this is not as unusual as I thought as I have just read that robins sometimes do not migrate south and can survive in very cold weather. It was still surprising to me as I have never experienced this behaviour in 65 years . I have always been excited to see my first sighting of a Robin which was a sign spring had arrived. I guess this flock of Robins today just ruined this yearly spring time experience for me. LOL

It was by far the largest gathering of Robins that I have seen in my life. They seemed to be in 2 groups and flew from tree to tree to ground and each time only stopping for a short period. They seemed restless. A very rough estimate would be 40-50 in total.
