Monarch Adult Sighted
Sightings report image

Date: 02/18/2020

Number: 1

One adult Monarch observed in flower beds directly in front of the Chrysalis Visitors' Pavilion at the National Butterfly Center.

I am almost certain that the adult Monarch I spotted here at the National Butterfly Center is the offspring of a resident south Texas [butterfly]. At the time I reported it I wasn't sure if it was or not, but I have since found two fourth or fifth instar caterpillars on our Tropical Milkweed plants. That tells me that they have been breeding in the area for at least a month so they would not be part of the migrating population. Also, the adult did not look worn at all.
