Robin (First SEEN)
Sightings report image

Date: 03/03/2020

Number: 1

While we have seen an adult female robin off and on in our backyard eating mountain ash & crab apple berries since Feb 8, this is the first time we have seen an adult male robin in our back yard since this past Fall. With his bright yellow beak, bright orange chest & black crown he is most definitely a male. He hangs out in our mountain ash tree for at least 30 minutes. We wonder whether he is checking out our backyard as territory for the upcoming breeding season? We hosted 2 successful robin nests this past spring/summer (2019). We wonder whether he has wintered here to get first pick at the best territories for the upcoming breeding season? or has he migrated up from the south as our days get longer and the temperatures get warmer? Today, it reached a high of plus 3 degrees Celsius. It is thrilling to have him back!
