Monarch Adult (FIRST sighted)
Sightings report image

Date: 03/02/2020

Number: 1

One monarch on Monday, another again on Wed.
Probably due to all of the milkweed in my yard.

The one pictured could be the same butterfly hanging around for a few days, but saw none yesterday (Tuesday).

Last year we cut the tropical milkweed to the ground as
suggested to avoid monarch disease, and it's back.

Weather has been all over the place, couple of fronts coming through, and they generally come from the west.

I saw a sulfur butterfly today, but really not a plethora of others this winter.

One factor in seeing the monarchs possibly is the fact that our house is on lake Houston, and so there is a few mile long, north south open area maybe a mile wide... Butterflies could hit the lake and
just fly north, coming by and stopping when they see flowers. We have all manner... Lantana, which is a favorite , milkweed, azaleas, and some annuals we also have.
