Actually the second but first I got a good look at. Tattered female searching for milkweed. Our milkweeds aren't up yet though.

It was literally flying close to the ground right outside my car – I was moving about 5 mph but couldn’t reach my phone. It appeared to be testing plants for egg laying but all it was finding there were thistle plants.

It was a worn butterfly, definitely not fresh.
