One adult monarch on damp grass in our yard, about 2:30 pm. Sunny.
The monarch looked bright and new. It was sipping on slightly wet grass in the sunshine in our yard.
The weather was sunny that day, with a temperature in the upper 60’s. Wind was light. We’ve had a mild winter and a lot of rain recently but the weekend I saw the Monarch was bright and sunny. It has been consistently warming since then.
Our milkweed is not up yet, but I’m watching for it.
The day I saw the Monarch, I also saw a common buckeye, a pipevine swallowtail, a Carolina satyr, and what was probably a Horace’s duskywing. The swallowtail was the only one I got a picture of. All the butterflies were sipping on water from wet grass except for the swallowtail, which was feeding on wildflowers.
