Saw my first very large adult zipping past in early afternoon. I have a few tropical milkweed plants in beds but haven't seen any native yet. Couldn't determine sex but overall wing color looked bright - not too faded. Saw my second one a few miles away an hour or so later.
I've encountered hundreds of Monarchs over the years, even used to do backyard rearing. Since we're so close to the Gulf coast, we're early on the migration route. Although this one wasn't tattered and threadbare like some are, I'm certain it was a migrator because I saw another shortly after and have seen many since. We're right in the path of Spring and Fall migration here. In spite if the Corona virus several neighbors and I sat at our community lake this past weekend and watched the monarchs flying over. Pretty amazing to see and a blessing.
