Sightings report image

Date: 03/14/2020

Number: 3

The photo is one of 3 winter-resident hummingbirds banded and color-marked at our house on 26 January 2020 by veteran bander Nancy Newfield. The bird shown is an immature male rufous hummingbird which has been observed at our house since 6 December 2019, nectaring from a feeder on our front porch. We also caught and banded on 26 January an adult female ruby-throated hummingbird which first appeared in December 2019 or January 2020 and another immature male rufous hummingbird which has been observed at our house since possibly since late November 2019, and first photographed on 1 December 2019. All three banded birds are still here today. Only the female still has her color mark - the other color marks have come off through molting.
