Virginia Living Museum staff member Darl Fletcher reports that the first Journey North tulips planted in the museum's Children's Learning Garden were noticed emerged today. The Childrens Learning Garden began with Journey North tulips planted in Fall 1998. Our average date of emergence from the first 20 years of data is 2/7, so this year the shortest tulip emerged 2 days earlier than average. One tulip's leaves were 2 inches tall, the other one-half inch tall. The tallest tulip may have been from a previous year's bulb that was missed when clearing the bed in spring, so the short tulip is the photo submitted.
