The photo is of an adult female ruby-throated hummingbird nectaring from Russelia sarmentosa. It first appeared in December 2019 or January 2020. It is one of 3 winter-resident hummingbirds banded and color-marked at our house on 26 January 2020 by veteran bander Nancy Newfield. The other 2 are immature male rufous hummingbirds which have been observed at our house from early December 2019 until 16 March 2020 and 18 March 2020. The color marks have come off through molting. We still have not seen any new ruby-throated hummingbirds yet this spring in our yard (though I understand that they are in the area now).
