I believe it was a female. I couldn't get too close or she'd fly away - but I believe it was a female.
This was a bright new Monarch. I have seen the tattered ones. This was a new healthy female. She flew away before I could get a shot. She was NOT on Milkweed – here in Tennessee we have this purple ground covering flowery things that grow in the earliest of Spring. I do NOT know what it’s called. No Milkweed here yet to feed on!
I have seen the “little” white (sulfur like) butterflies, and I did see a medium sized black one zoon by over the past weekend – I don’t know what it was.
