Monarch Adult (FIRST sighted)

Date: 03/29/2020

Number: 1

First Monarch of the season! Did not get a photo as it didn't stick around as my milkweed is not up yet!

Yes, it was clearly a female Monarch. Her colors were definitely faded and she clearly was not freshly eclosed. She was flying low to the ground in my garden and sadly my milkweed is not up yet! I ran to get my camera and chased her around my yard (I do this often lol) and she flew away before I could get a photo. My first Monarch sighting last year wasn’t until mid-April and my Tuberosa was starting to come up and she laid eggs.

Other butterflies- yes! Way too early, almost a month it seems! In the last 3 days I have seen- 2 painted ladies, 4 Black Swallowtails (2 stayed and laid eggs on my fennel and dill!), a Palamedes Swallowtail, an Eastern Tiger Swallowtail, a Spring Azure, and today I saw a Mourning Cloak!

Now that I saw the Monarch the other day I am carrying my camera with me every time I go outside in the yard!
