The monarchs were abundant today! In the morning around 10:30 am it was breezy, a mix of cloud & sun, 72 degrees F, with high humidity... the grass deeply dewy. The monarchs could be seen nectaring on wildflowers, egg-laying, flying, and sunning at times. I saw at least 15 individuals.
I followed several females around observing them as they found fresh milkweed to lay their eggs on. At times they rested or nectared, but mostly they were actively egg-laying.
Later in the afternoon on a short walk around, I again saw at least 10 monarchs including a flying mated pair.
This is one of the lovely monarchs seen today, a male nectaring from a yellow thistle in the bright morning sunlight.
