Monarch Larva Sighted
Sightings report image

Date: 03/28/2020

Number: 44

Today, late in the afternoon I did a survey of some of the milkweed ~ checking for eggs and larvae. I looked at 197 milkweed plants. I found 161 monarch eggs, 27 1st instars, 12 2nd instars, 4 3rd instars, 0 4th instars, and 1 5th instar. Most of the 1st instars were newborns.

This is a photo of the 5th instar who I found on a tall milkweed ~ a wonderful sight! His mom must have been one of the earliest monarchs to have made her journey here this spring.
