Gray Whale Sighted
Sightings report image

Date: 04/03/2020

Number: 3

With extremely windy conditions causing poor visibility for the past 3 days, spotting whales has been quite challenging. Today, we did see 3 northbound grays during our 4 .5 hours of observation. Yesterday, April 2, although we did not see any grays, we did have a surprise sighting of four orcas in our area!! The group consisted of two males and two likely females. On Monday, March 30, we joined Marine Mammal stranding coordinator, Sarah Grimes in the search for a young male gray whale carcass that was spotted on Sunday, March 29, off the Pelican Bluff Trail and washed onto the rocks between there and Moat Creek. We did not locate the deceased whale. Rain is expected here on Saturday, April 4 and Sunday, April 5 but we hope to report more whale sightings soon.
