First male ruby throated hummingbird this spring! Made his mating high pitched screech with his wings as he dove for the feeder I was sitting near. “Welcome back!” I exclaimed with joyful surprise. He confidently and comfortably sat on the feeder looking straight into my eyes while taking a few sips. Then abruptly flew off to the south looking healthy but a little thin from his incredible journey to be 1st home to his mating ground.
