Signs of Spring

Date: 04/08/2020

I remember doing a butterfly project in middle school, and since then I just completely forgot about the Monarch migration.. Until today and it's so beautiful!! They liked the peach tree (which sadly doesn't have any peaches right now, just blossoms) and they were flying around the grass a lot too. I also saw a big black butterfly outlined with white and a small white butterfly. It's about 70 degrees Fahrenheit in the afternoon, which I figure is really good for the butterflies, especially after our elongated frost. I'll let you know I'm no expert in the field of insects, or any biology for that matter. But I hope you have enough information that you can study and put into statistics. I really don't know if they are on track with their migration this year, and I've seen that their population has stooped awfully low. It's wrenching to know that this species is slowly coming to an end.. maybe soon they'll adapt and hit an all time high (population-wise)! I also hope I'm not the only one reporting their sights in New Mexico. Truly, it's a shame to just overlook these heavenly creatures... I expect my observations to be of use to you. If not, it's fine- I still had lots of fun ! Let's save this species. Thanks!!
