First, this is an approximate date. I didn't know that Journey North tracked loons, so I'm going by memory on this one.

We live on our sailboat on a small creek off Chickamauga Creek (part of the Tennessee River complex, not far from Chattanooga, TN).

During early evening in late March, my husband called me up to the cockpit. He was very excited to see a pair of common loons swimming together about 50 feet from our boat. We watched them for several minutes, and they seemed to be fishing as they slowly meandered away from us.

My husband is from upstate New York, and he used to see loons in the Adirondack Mountains. However, he didn't know they migrated through this area. It was a treat for both of us!
