I have seen a few monarchs fly over the house this season, starting on 4/8. But none of them had stopped in my garden to lay eggs.
Today, I watched a faded, slightly tattered monarch lay 5 eggs on A. incarnata. 10 minutes later, a bright orange monarch flew over but didn't stop; the contrast in their coloring was striking.
A couple of hours later, I spotted another faded monarch. She laid 4 eggs on the A. incarnata; some of the stalks now have two eggs.
(Only one A. tuberosa stalk is up, and 4 A. syriaca. No eggs have been laid on them. There are 11 A. incarnata stalks.)
