First generation Monarchs eclosed today! Had several milkweed, antelope horn, green and a few tropical, growing in flowerbeds. Watched migrator deposit eggs in earlier sighting. Eggs hatched and caterpillars grew and grew and grew until all the milkweed was nothing but tiny sprouts and stalks. I spotted several chrysalis on the fence, salvia and crepe myrtle trees in the same bed. This morning there were 1st gens everywhere. Midday most took flight and landed in the trees in our yard. Male to female ratio best I could count was about 30% to 80%. Looks like more will eclose tomorrow. Still, there were at least 4 or 5 times more eggs deposited than what I see. Wasps, anoles and spiders did a number on them. Godspeed to the survivors.
