Saw first monarch in front yard prairie planting. Milkweed species have emerged here. The biggest are about four inches tall. I have not checked for eggs and seriously doubt if I would find any with seeing only that one Monarch.
The weather here had strong south winds on April 28th so I think it was quite possible the winds could have aided the Monarch's "early" arrival here on the 30th. We have pretty good Monarch habitat with prairie flora and a sheltering windbreak. I have also seen several other butterfly species the past few days but no more Monarchs.
I was very surprised to see it. I called my wife to observe it flying in my front yard. From our front window it was within a few feet of us.
