Our first monarch caterpillar to make a chrysalis decided to climb the downspout on the gutter above the milkweed it had fed on. It seems to have taken longer for these caterpillars to go from egg to chrysalis than most of the others we have observed. We have had a lot of storms with strong winds and heavy rain in the last few weeks. Temperatures also dropped to near freezing for one or two nights and only made it to the 50's/60's for the next several days. Hopefully things will go smoother for the caterpillars we are still watching.
