Sightings report image

Date: 05/04/2020

Number: 1

photo is of the scene after the bird left. I took this monday off, & went intobackyard, passing the hummingbirdfeeder. Heard a buzzy sound near my head, thought it was a big bee. Looked up as I realized I had surpriseda hummingbird! As it zipped past me to escape. I caught a flash of red, probably a ruby-throated male. 10:25 am. Mon 5-4-2020... ---Yesterday high was mid upper 70s & a warm night. We had freezing overnight temp just about a week ago. Wind started gusting this morning bringing in a cold front again... Temps are falling from around 61. Tonight will be mid 30s. --- You see the red hummingbird feeder near the garage wall. There it's partially protected from the winds and not in full sun all day. I've had it out for 2 weeks. If there hadbeen a potential sighting before, I've been going to work each day so was notaround to see. Wecan't plant much yet in NE PA, city of Forty Fort, so for color I had a red manila folder that was placed on the ground at the base of the feeder. Friday I stopped at a nursery and got the huge pink-blossomed hanging basket on a stand in the garden to the right, hoping to help hummingbird spot color from the sky as it's going by. My 1st sighting!! Yay.
