Signs of Spring

Flock of butterflies (approximately 30-50) heading North at 8:05 PM. Weather:Partly cloudy after earlier rain showers. Wind calm. 69 deg F

They were about 20 feet up and appeared large even from that distance, color was hard to judge due to diminishing light, but the edges of their wings seemed black, thus my presumption that they were Monarchs. They passed quickly, but they were clearly butterflies. Unfortunately no photo.

As a side note, as a child growing up in a Chicago suburb I witnessed a large Oak tree completely covered with Monarchs. Must of been the fall of 1969. I’ve been fascinated with them ever since. Thanks for your work!
