I saw him or her from inside the house. Luckily I started my iPhone video camera because I scared a robin in the yard that flew two feet from the monarch who then took off high up into our trees and then flew away. This is the best blurry screen shot in my video after he/she took off from our pine tree which the monarchies love to rest on each year and therefore are easy to spot.
