Began design of backyard habitat. 3 Hummingbird feeders installed, Songbird Feed Bell hung on tree, finishing installation of electric, fresh water wall fountain. Landlord is beekeeper. She installed 10-box honey bee beehive as well as acquiring 6 egg laying hens that are free range. They are destructive to my hostas and her vegetable garden, and dig up the ground everywhere, but they definitely keep the ticks at bay; a problem here in upstate NY. Next step: attach a small bird house to the tree next to the woods. Also began depositing all fruit and vegetable peelings into the woods at the start of spring. I intend to harvest milkweed pods from my jobsite (local to NY) when we go back to work, then plant all along the perimeter of the large wood pile by the woods that gets full sun. Next week, multiple red Mandevilla will be planted for Humminbirds. Planting is late this year - cold start in NY.
