Noticed one male Northern (Baltimore) Oriole, flitting among blossoms on crabapple trees.
Immediately upon sighting, I placed fresh halved oranges and grape jelly in nearby leafless, young pin oak trees.
Within hours, we had 2 males and 2 females.
In the weeks since, we have 3 pairs. Still eating oranges and jelly. And have been feeding from hanging since their arrival. No nest building has been seen..yet.
These are our 1st sightings since 2016.
I credit my sightings this year to being home all day due to the covid-19, stay-at-home, precautions.
Otherwise, we miss many 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.bird related activities.
Have had 3 male indigo buntings eating seed from the ground under our feeder this Spring. I haven't seen them in a week. Maybe have moved on.
We coincidentally had 3 males 2 or 3 yrs ago, as well.
In the Fall of 2016, after all leaves had fallen, we noticed 2 oriole nests. Two separate trees, approx football field length apart. On the edges of open lawn areas with mix of surrounding tall evergreens & deciduous trees.
