Spotted one first instar caterpillar on a common milkweed plant that had grown outside the normal boundaries of my milkweed patch. I saw no other larvae on that plant or on plants in the big patch of milkweed. I wondered if a female would lay just one egg (not likely) or perhaps she'd laid others on the other milkweed a couple feet away, but they had been eaten by predators?
