We have a 62 foot by 2 foot strip of milkweed in backyard. We have not seen any adult monarch butterflies yet, but were surprised to find 34 first instar caterpillars in our milkweed. There was a hard frost on the 8th of May, but we had covered the milkweed with multiple layers of blankets. Some larva were left in the milkweed and some being raised in mesh cages on porch. All larvae left in milkweed disappeared before time to J-hang. Those in cages turned to chrysalis on May 25, 26, 27.
