27 May: Afternoon, 'zero tolerance' was the deal, and Short Leg dealt punishment to two or three males that dared come near 'his' feeder. Observed a male hovering at the feeder briefly when, like a bullet, Short Leg came from the left in a full-speed blur and I heard "THUD-THWACK", which sounded like a small version of a Scherzer or Verlander fastball hitting a catcher's mitt, as he hit the other male and they flew off directly away from my line of sight as he chased off. I couldn't believe they both weren't killed from the impact. The attached image is the local champ before sunset at 2048. (Notice the right claw barely emerging from belly feathers, next to a clearly seen left leg.)
