Monarch Adult (FIRST sighted)

Date: 06/02/2020

Number: 1

Observed my first Monarch of the year today. Flitting about along the railroad right of way. It remained in the area which quite a bit of milkweed was growing. It was observed nectaring mainly on Woodland Phlox. Not sure of the sex perhaps a male for I did not see it lay eggs upon milkweed.
This time last year I had seen quite a few Monarchs to date. I also haven’t seen many butterflies from other species this year either. Perhaps the cool spring is the cause.
