Number: 6

31 May: 32F at 600, Short Leg quickly arrived at clean feeder put out, perched, took a few sips, then puffed up appearing to go into torpor on the relatively warm feeder for ten minutes before another hummer disturbed him, waking him and triggering a chase. Life has been good and mostly easy for him lately. The past few days spent perched on the line over the feeder, his girlfriends take turns coming by every ten minutes or so for a few sips, they go off together, and he comes back after some minutes, perches on the line looking happy with his chest puffed out, takes a drink, and perches again until the next comes along and the procession continues. Only a few other males a day come by now, to be chased away. One rather small male seems to get an occasional pass to perch and drink a few times lingering in full view before being chased, sparking wonder if he may be one of Short Leg's offspring
