We finally saw an adult monarch! I have a "nursery" of some 30 eggs/tiny first instar caterpillars, and this monarch is the first one we've actually seen in 2020. It fluttered into the garden, checked out a lone milkweed plant in the midst of the veggies, and fluttered away without laying any eggs -- at least not in that part of the yard. I did find one in an area where she might have been earlier. We're not alone. In our neighborhood full of butterfly gardeners and home raising enthusiasts, a lot of my friends have found eggs without seeing any adults.
