To my surprise I discovered 2 caterpillars on swamp milkweed today. (Normally I find my first ones not until the end of June.) By the time I had set up my 24 inch butterfly mesh cube on the covered front porch, one cat had disappeared. I transferred the other cat (about 1 inch long ) on a swamp milkweed branch stuck in a vase to the mesh cage where it will be protected from predators.
