Migrant monitoring, 3:09 to 4:20 p.m. CDT, Iowa State University Cross-Country Field. 3:10 p.m.: Observed the first and only Monarch of the day for about 4 minutes. It was circling for the first minute, and then headed off to the north during the next three minutes. It stopped to rest in the grass twice, while maintaining its northerly course. Initial flight direction, 357 degrees azimuth; final and most definitive direction, 11 degrees azimuth, while flying about 1.2m above the ground.
