Saw 3 adult monarch butterflies. 2 had ragged wings.
I first saw monarch butterflies in my yard was May 15, 2020 and I'm 100% sure they were monarchs.
I have a huge garden filled with flowers, herbs, shrubs and trees. 2 monarchs had ragged wings and kept landing on flowers throughout my gardens. I noticed them around 1 pm. I didn't notice which way they went when they left my yard. The 3rd monarch I saw about 4pm fluttering around my gardens.
June1st I observed 2 healthy monarchs that flew around my gardens and seemed to stay close to each other. They didn't stay long.
June 4th 1 monarch visited my yard for a very short time .
I don't have any milkweed plants though I keep trying to grow it from seed with little success. But Kelowna has lots of areas with milkweed growing.
I have many swallowtails come through my yard throughout late spring and summer every year. I think I have seen painted ladies also but I haven't kept track of them or others until this year.
