Monarch (OTHER Observations)
Sightings report image

Date: 06/14/2020

Number: 76

With all milkweed eaten by prior and current Monarch caterpillars, there is no milkweed for Female Monarch butterflies to lay eggs nor to eat milkweed to eventually become a Chrystalis and then a viable butterfly. No pumpkin in stores as a substitute for milkweed. Caterpillars are eating away on summer squash, butter et squash-their favorite, and an acorn squash. Cucumber is also there. They use that more as a resting place. I clean off all fruit and the tray from grass 3x day to ensure hygienic and no bacteria build up. I also recut the existing squash to get a fresh new layer of fresh squash. There is some fighting between them when too close on squash. I spray with light water to keep squash hydrated.
