Hummingbirds enjoy many of my Moms flowers, which are beginning to bloom in the renovated garden she asked me to re-build this winter:

Coreopsis verticillata (Moonbeam perennial - yellow flower - TLC ordered it by species name, Height = about 1.5 ft., Sun in summer >= 7 hr.)
Lonicera sempervirens (Major Wheeler vine on left-side of bench trellis - orange flower - usually in nursery stock, Sun in summer >= 7 hr.)
Campsis radicans (Trumpet vine on right side of bench trellis - red flower - usually in nursery stock, Sun in summer > 12 hr.)
Perovskia atriplicifolia (Russian Sage behind the bench trellis - purple flower - usually in nursery stock, Height = about 5.5 ft., Sun in summer > 12 hr.)
Salvia (Perennial Salvia right of the Moonbeam - red flower - usually in nursery stock, Height = about 3.5 ft., Sun in summer >= 7 hr.)
Lantana camara (Perennial Lantana right of the Russian Sage along the brick - orange & yellow flower - usually in nursery stock, Height = about 5.5 ft., Sun in summer >= 7 hr.)
Hibiscus syriacus (Dwarf Shrub Hibiscus right of the Lantana along the brick - pink flower - usually in nursery stock, Height = about 5.5 ft., Sun in summer >= 7 hr.)

The Lantana camara must be cut-down each spring as it emerges slowly from the root crown around April. The Perovskia atriplicifolia is placed in the east-west alley on Moms property, so it will get > 12 hours of sunlight in summer. The Campsis radicans is placed to get about 7 hours of sunlight in summer, which is an experiment to see if it will bloom. All of these plants do not like getting watered to bloom, so they get less than 10 minutes of irrigation every two days. Of course, soil condition is the key to longevity and it contains topsoil mixed with sphagnum dry peat [1 in.], composted cow manure [1 in.], a layer of newspaper to keep out lawn and weeds, and a layer of mulch [3 in.]. Also, the Vitex agnus-castus, Shoals Creek Chaste Tree blue flower, actually a shrub, was planted with no soil amendments in the front lawn and should get about 20 ft. in height. - Thank God, the plants are growing.
