This lovely, tattery-winged male monarch was nectaring on self-heal flowers this morning ~ it was overcast & lightly misting at this time, about 75 degrees F. These lavender flowers (Prunella vulgaris) are a monarch favorite & thankfully in abundance.
Later in the afternoon the sun came out (about 80 degrees F). I saw 4 monarchs flying and nectaring in the front yard & near pasture at the same time. They all seemed to be faded-winged.
