My balcony is crowded with feeders and flowers for the hummingbirds and 2 tomato plants for me At least 4 Rubies 2 males and 2 females use my feeders Tonight in addition to the entertainment and relaxation they give me in return for building this little habit I was rewarded in a very tangible way I noticed a flurry of activity around the tomatoes, which of course are the only blooms I’d not expect to see them interested in Turns out the recent weather has drawn a fungus gnat infestation that could have ruined my prize tomato plants even before I could harvest a single 1 The dominant male is comfortable enough with me that he buzzed around scooping up the adults that got disturbed when I gave each pot an organic soil drench treatment Then he perched on the feeder looking at me and chittering away We’re friends now
