adult monarch, in great shape, flitted very quickly back and forth checking out each of my milkweed plants - moved much more quickly than when I have observed with egg laying - did not see abdomen go under the leaves - not sure if there was egg laying or just rapidly checking out and stopping to sip on the milkweed flowers - do butterflies typically "mark" or check out plants prior to laying (if not ready to lay eggs yet?) do males leave a scent for females to locate milkweed? the flighing was very spirited, fast moving from plant to plant rapidly.
