We visited Point Pelee National Park on the first day they were back to normal operating hours to celebrate my son's birthday and graduation. We arrived at the north end of Northwest Beach about 11:30. We stayed until approximately 18:00. Over the course of the day I noticed about one dozen adult Monarchs. All except one were fresh looking and vibrant. I made a curious observation that all except 2 seemed to be flying south in the same fashion they would during autumn migration i.e flying parallel to the shoreline just at the edge of where the vegetation ends and the sand begins. Of the 2 not flying southward one was the faded one which I suspect may have been ovipositing but I was not able to investigate this further as I was hosting our physically distanced gathering of 10. Lake calm, sunny all day with a high around 25C. Perfect summer day at the best beach in Essex County.
