Jacob's Nature Park is a 23 acre city park maintained as a natural area within the city of Johnson City, TN. The rich eastern broadleaf forest, wetlands and the front entrance pollinator gardens are all pollinator friendly. All additional plantings in the wetlands are native to our watershed. The pollinator garden does not have the same local native restrictions. Here, for 100 feet along the entrance, visitors find volunteer common milkweed and ironweed. The enhancements to this garden include plants listed as rare or endangered to the state, common straight species natives and five species of goldenrod. It functions as a successful educational pollinator garden because guests can see the beautiful pollinators on these plants and want to add these plants to their home gardens. To further our mission of promoting pollinator gardens, Parks and Recreation holds a Seed Swap and Pollinator Day event in early February. There, guests visit with many of the organizations that promote pollinators and everyone can take home free seeds from many of the native plants featured in this garden.
