I created a tall grass patch prairie with plants native to Iowa. Focus is to support monarchs and pollinators, but birds love it too. ~1200 sqft. Started about 5 years ago and expand each year. Im a registered monarch waystation.
Plants include a variety of native grasses and variety of native flowers such as coneflowers, prairie sunflower, wild bergamot, aster, Queen Annes lace, milkweed, coreopsis, blazingstar, Joe our weed, iron weed, and more.
I also Recently removed three Norway maples (With pleasure) and replaced them with an oak tree and two heritage birch.
I also added several species of bushes: viburnum, winterberry, buttonbush, coralberry, and red stem dogwood.
All the birds in our neighborhood frequent our yard; people often comment there are so many birds In your yard.
I also have seen a rise in amphibious visitors the last two years: copes gray tree frogs and toads.
Thanks for letting me share my nerdy hobby.
