Hummingbird, Nectaring from Flowers

Date: 07/09/2020

Number: 1

I have not been able 2 watch for hummingbird visits due 2 some health reasons preventing me from going up & down our steps 2 our backyard. My husband had moved our 4 Cigar plants in a row near the kitchen window that were over-wintered in our greenhouse. At 6:55pm tonight I was able 2 catch 1 adult male Ruby working his way down each Cigar plant. There was just enough sunlight to catch his brilliant red throat when he turned a certain way. It really made my day. I was so pleased 2 c him. Sometimes right before dark we will see 2 hummers chasing each other. My husband has seen a single adult Black-chin male about 6-8 weeks ago while he was doing yardwork. So we know we have both Species this year. We sit right at the line of North Texas that can be visited by both the Rubies & Black-chinned hummers. My husband has also witnessed a hummer at our feeder doing his last "fill-up" right b4 it gets completely dark. I really don't know how they can see at such low-light. We do have an Oak tree at that feeder & they often set-up watch there to chase all other hummers away. This Season we know we have at least 1 female Ruby, 1 male Ruby & 1 adult male Black-chin.
