Lots of Monarchs in the marsh since those varieties of milkweed still blooming, while common milkweed no longer is.
In the Marsh area next to the Creek, there is Swamp Milkweed and Joe Pye Weed that were blooming in glorious fashion this day. These plants in the Marsh that I am able to observe from our walking trail are somewhat close together. I am sure there are plants further into the Marsh that I cannot see. I did not see all the Monarchs in the marsh however. I report them all together in a one-time report for the day. We saw them all around the farm field areas, and in our large yard. Most were in the Marsh this day because of the blooming plants (Common Milkweed done blooming) and we were in an ATV vehicle. It was very sunny and extremely hot and many of the Monarchs seemed to emerge from the ground when our noisy ATV came around. It seemed likely that they were escaping the heat. We saw many that were nectaring (or resting) and at least 4 were mating.
I don't know the dimensions of these areas, but I will say that in addition to the marsh plants, there are three large areas of Common Milkweed that we typically check out. In the earlier reports, the Common Milkweed were still blooming. We do not get out to all of these areas every day. Naturally, I see more when I observe all the areas.
It is possible that I counted duplicate Monarchs as one sighting.
