Monarch Larva Sighted
Sightings report image

Date: 01/05/2020

Number: 3

I purchased my first milkweed three years ago. this is the first year I have had great success with them returning laying eggs and completing their cycle. January I had three Larvae with unknown results. In mid March I had 15 larvae and built a net housing around my milkweed for better control, all chrysalis survived and butterflies were released April 14th through May 3rd. Early June I had 12, only 8 survived and were released. Not enough food. July 16th I found 8 larvae. I did not expect to have more so soon, my milkweed does not have enough time to re-generate. The cycle does seem to be moving more quickly as 2 have already become chrysalis. I have purchased more milkweed and also trying to start more plants from seed but fear its not enough for these very hungry little guys.
