Monarch Adult Sighted

Number: 10

We were biking along the Sakatah Trail, which is a converted railroad track running thro the area. About a mile past the little concrete fishing pier/causeway we began to see single Monarchs flying along and above the wildflowers along the trail. The entire bike ride was about 1 1/2 hours, but all of the Monarchs were seen after we passed the lake area. They seemed to be looking for food or a place to land. There are cup plants, bergamot, germander, yellow daisy-like plants, a white flowered poppy vine, which I think is invasive, and ragweed. Along this trail, you'll find wooded edges, as well as what probably was prairie at one time. The right of way on both sides of the trail are maybe 15 - 20 feet and then beyond that there are usually corn fields, with a few wetland areas as well.
