Mid Summer Monarch Migration is underway. Previously known as Pre-migration. A beautiful clear blue sky evening!
Light to moderate SSE wind at 13-20 kph. 21�c. 79% humidity. Daytime high was 27c. Overnight low of 21�c.
Observed about 12 monarchs before sunset at the Tip at Point Pelee National Park, 7:40-8:15 pm. Sunset 8:39 pm. They were flitting north & south on west path. A few attempted to cross the lake but turned back to the Tip. They were checking tree tips & occassionally briefly settled on mostly Hackberry trees or bare branches. One at north end of Tip nectared on Swamp milkweed flowers. Most were pristine & a few very slightly faded. Most if not all were male. Goldenrod beginning to bloom. Also in bloom, Soapwort, Fleabane & Knapweed.
