Could easily be many more across the acreage. we stayed within a couple of acres all day. The field is covered with ironweed and monarchs as well as 3 other species were feeding.
This was from about 4:00 - 5:30. We were fishing at 3 different farm ponds on the property. We noticed monarchs flying by and then at the last pond we decided to walk the flowers and counted up to 30. We are confident the other acreage too was populated with them.
We live in Missouri and the family member from that region (KS) said he sees monarchs all summer, while in SW MO (where we live) we have seen a handful off and on, nothing like the prior years.
